Police appeal following fatal road collision in Preston
Police in Preston are appealing for witnesses following a fatal road traffic collision on the docks.
The incident happened at around 12:40pm today (Tuesday 27th July) at the entrance to the Odeon Cinema on Portway.
A white Citroën van was involved in a collision with a pedestrian. The pedestrian, a 45 year old man from Chorley, became trapped under the van and had to be freed by Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service. He was taken to the Royal Preston Hospital but sadly died shortly after arrival.
Officers are currently tracing his next of kin and specially trained family liaison officers will be providing support.
Sergeant David Brown from Preston police said, “I would appeal for anyone who was in the area at the time and who witnessed something to come forward and contact us.
“The incident happened off the road near to the entrance to the cinema so there was no disruption to other road users. We are currently tracing the victim’s family and will be offering support to them.”
